The human body naturally stores fat, subcutaneous fat, in order to supply energy in times of need. Every body distributes the subcutaneous body fat by a genetically determined pattern. In almost all cases this inherent distribution cannot be remedied by a special diet or increased physical exercise. Aqualyx or Celluform injections contain an active substance called deoxycholic acid. This is a naturally occurring acid within the body and its essential function is involved in the digestion of fat. Here's a step-by-step explanation of how fat dissolving injections work:

1. Consultation: The process begins with a consultation with a qualified medical professional or aesthetic practitioner. They will assess your suitability for the treatment, discuss your goals, and determine the areas to be treated.

2. Preparation: The treatment area is cleansed and marked to identify the specific areas where the injections will be administered.

3. Injection: Using a fine needle, the deoxycholic acid solution is injected directly into the subcutaneous fat layer in the targeted area. The solution works by disrupting the fat cell membranes.

4. Fat cell breakdown: Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring bile acid that helps break down dietary fat. When injected into fat deposits, it causes the destruction of fat cell membranes, leading to the release of the fat contained within.

5. Inflammatory response: After the injection, an inflammatory response is triggered in the treated area. This response helps to further break down the fat cells and initiate the removal process.

What happens after your fat dissolving treatment?

• Directly after your treatment you may incur some swelling, this completely normal. Other treatment effects are: itching or a burning sensation, pressure, aches and soreness. 
• Do not expose the treated area to extreme heat or sweat e.g. Sauna/Gym
• Avoid heavy physical exercise for at least a week
• No direct make up on the treated area for 24 hours
• Do not take any anti-inflammatory medication e.g. Brufen etc
• Some bruising is very normal
